They called it The Night of Blood.

It was a cold December night in 1868 when about 50 men travelled from Seymour, Indiana to New Albany. They brought final justice to members of the infamous Reno Gang-Frank, Simeon and William Reno, and their pal Charlie Anderson. One by one, each of the outlaws was hanged inside the jail, ending a remarkable era of robbery, horse theft, arson, counterfeiting, intimidation and murder.

The vigilantes' signature garb? The scarlet mask.

More than 130 years later, that era is remembered through a new business: ScarletMask.

We focus on the people, places and events of the Old West. The lawmen. The outlaws. The holdups. The gunfights. And the everyday people who brought civilization to the wilder areas.

We do that in a number of ways. Research. Writing. Publishing stories. Selling rare books, photos, documents and other items.

Mark Boardman is The Man Behind the Mask. He's a native Hoosier with a lifelong interest in the American frontier. He has a collection of Old West books and magazines, ephemera and pictures. Boardman also writes on a variety of Western Americana subjects, and holds positions with both the Western Outlaw/Lawman History Association (WOLA) and the National Association for Outlaw and Lawman History (NOLA). And he does have a special interest in the Reno Gang.

ScarletMask's promise to you-a fair and square deal in every interaction. Respect. Honesty. We're here to serve you, not the other way around. And the whole purpose of this enterprise is to have some fun (and maybe learn something, too).

So jump on the train as it moves out. Check out what we have. Contact us.

And don your ScarletMask. There's some work to be done.
