This photo was recently purchased. It shows a young man with a moustache, suit coat, vest and bow tie. There is no photographer mark indicating location or date.
But on the back of the photo, written in period pencil:
This is from the Rogues Gallery Picture of one of the Seymour express Robbers.
It’s not Frank or John Reno. It’s not Frank Sparks. Or Miles Ogle. Or Isaac Wilson.
So who is it? |
|
A
variant of the Pinkerton photo, produced by St. Louis photographer
A.W. Wood, probably in 1868 or 1869 after John Reno had gone to
the Jefferson City, MO, Penitentiary for the 1867 burglary of the
Daviess
County treasury. On the back, written in pencil, is a notation “John
Reno. Safe Blower.” At the bottom of the back, written in ink,
is the description: “Jack Reno. Safe Man. In Jefferson City
for 25 years 1868.” (ScarletMask collection).
